“Swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, run 26.2 miles – BRAG FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE” John Collins, IRONMAN co-founder, 1978
The 2016 Cairns IRONMAN took place on Sunday 12th June; the swimming component at the Northern Beaches, the bicycle component between Cairns and Port Douglas and the foot race in Cairns CBD. Tim van Berkel took out the men’s race with a time of 8 hours 15 minutes and Jodie Swallow the ladies race with a time of 9 hours and 7 minutes.
The Championship features one of the the most spectacular ironman bike courses in the world, where the highway hugs the great barrier reef coastline with the world heritage tropical rain forests in the background. The Asia Pacific IRONMAN is planned to take place in Cairns for at least three years as a part of the Cairns Airport Adventure Festival.
The Cairns Airport Adventure Festival offers events for everyone - Coral Coast Triathlon, RRR Mountian Bike Challenge, Great Barrier Reef Ocean Challenge, Quiksilver Reef Swim - Green Island, The Cairns Post Bright Night Run and McDonalds Iron Kids Cairns.
